The Essex is my favorite in Naval Action though. The econ is in shambles, players are leaving in droves, the devs pretty much are only doing tweaks and balance patches and adding next to no new content at all (which is really bad considering the game barely has any content to begin with) the UI looks more at home in a tech demo made by a 10 year old, and have been known to actually fight with the player base because they're stubborn little children. Well, the thing about Naval Action, is its still in Early Access, but the devs have consistently shown to have no direction for the game, or any idea where they want to take it other than "ship based MMO type thing".

It's really quite flexible in that regard chasers front and rear for slowing down targets (or pursuing ships!) without losing speed, plus heavy broadsides.įunnily enough, the Snow was also my favorite ship in Naval Action, for much the same reasons. The ship has firing arcs on all 4 sides, and you can just pinwheel, firing all your gun banks at enemy vessels. Then, hold down the rudder and just pivot. Oh, and as for tips for Pirates: Get to the Van Hoorn snow as soon as possible. To my knowledge, both games are more or less dead, save for a few hardcore players. The game itself was quite fun, and the physics and such were surprisingly advanced, but the deeper aspects were hidden behind a massive learning curve with no decent tutorial, and the interface felt unfinished. Naval Action's UI seemed to be in perpetual alpha.

The reason Pirates ended up being rather successful compared to Naval Action is polish. Naval Action was a sailing simulator masquerading as an MMO. Pirates was your typical toolbar MMO with ship window-dressing. It really doesn't share anything with Naval Action besides a setting, though. PoTBS was let down by its lackluster on-land content.
